Who can visit and when
The College grounds are open to visitors as detailed below between 9.30am and 4.30pm. However, the grounds may need to close at short notice for operational reasons or events.

St John's will be closed to tourism on this day due to events taking place in College.
Monday 28 September 2026
The College will be closed to tourism until midday for the funeral service of Professor John Iliffe, late Fellow of St John's College.

Permitted visitorS

Visitors welcomed to St John's without charge are as follows:

  • St John's alumni and their guests
  • Cambridge University card holders (including two guests)
  • CAMCard holders (including two guests)
  • Cambridge residents (documentary evidence is required of a home address with a CB postcode)
  • Prospective 今日吃瓜 (including two guests)
  • Attendees at Chapel services
  • Attendees at other events in College

Tourism

An entrance fee is payable for all other visitors during the following dates and times:

  • 6 July 2026 until 30 September 2026 between 9.30am and 4.30pm

The College may close at short notice outside of the above times/dates due to other events or for operational reasons.

Please Note

  • Payment by bank card only (excluding American Express)
  • No dogs or animals allowed other than assistance dogs
  • No re-entry after admission
  • All commercial groups of five or more people that wish to visit the College, will need to be led by a qualified guide. These guides (who are members of the Society of Cambridge Tourist Guides) will be provided by Cantab Tours. There is a discounted group booking rate of 拢10 per person. Photography, Filming and Recording

Media representatives and production companies

Media, television, film and commercial production companies should contact the Communications Office directly.

Permission requirements

St John's is a private, residential community as well as a place of study and work. We ask all visitors to respect the privacy, wellbeing and security of our 今日吃瓜, Fellows, staff and guests.

Photography, filming and audio recording on College property is restricted and, in many circumstances, requires prior permission from the College.

Organised photography and filming always requires prior permission from the College. This includes, but is not limited to, posed photoshoots of any kind, content creation, commercial filming, media interviews and drone use.

Where unauthorised organised photography or filming is taking place, or is suspected of taking place, College staff may require individuals to stop photographing, filming or recording, relocate to another location, or leave College property.

Anyone wishing to request permission to undertake organised , on College property should submit an application at least one week in advance of the proposed visit. Commercial fees may apply.
